Decoy was founded already in 1985. Kari Järvinen, Lauri Kettunen, Tommi Koivuniemi, and Anssi Nykänen had met in studio sessions at BSM-studio, Tampere (Finland). The name of the group was adopted from Tommi who ran a band with his school mates in Nokia under this name.
The first line-up of the band consisted of Kari Järvinen (bass), Lauri Kettunen (gtrs, synth guitar), Veijo Kiiski (el.gtr), Kimmo Kiviniemi (gtrs), Tommi Koivuniemi (flute, keybrds), Anssi Nykänen (drums, prcs), and Petteri Vilén (saxs). Sound engineer Hämis came in 1987 during the recording session of the first album Industrialized summer.
